As secluded spots go, this one takes some beating. A world away from the lively streets of Sorrento – three kilometres to be precise – La Solara sits at the top of a hill and is entirely cocooned by trees. It's extremely quiet, making it faultless if you just want to get away from it all. While it may be a contemporary hotel, La Solara manages to retain a real sense of Italian elegance. The main focus is the Olympic-sized swimming pool - there's a raised sun terrace where you can melt away into a world of your own without being disturbed by people in the water. There's also a lemon grove garden where you can chill out under the shade of a tree. Interestingly, the hotel's probably one of our largest in terms of the ground it covers but with only 58 guestrooms, it never feels overly busy - guests have their own dining tables and the staff are incredibly attentive. All in all, there's a lovely personal touch about this place. The piece de resistance, however, has to be the food. It's out of this world. No wonder it regularly scores 100% in our Customer Satisfaction Questionnaires. Each night there's a set menu that's made up of local Neapolitan dishes as well as more famous Italian ones. What's more, the restaurant itself is gorgeous with large bay windows offering up pretty evening views over the mountain valley down to the sea. Likewise the bedrooms are rather special, combining contemporary facilities like Wi-Fi with small finishing touches like inlaid wooden furniture. All in all, La Solara ticks all the right holiday boxes. So much so that it's won hoards of our Gold Awards. In fact there's not enough room left on the wall for them. Need we say more?

Hotel La Solara can be found in the picturesque resort of Sorrento which is situated on the Neapolitan Riviera. The Neapolitan Riviera is nestles around the Bay of Naples and debatably it occupies the most scenic spot in the Mediterranean. Looking over the bay of Naples with stunning views of Capri and Mount Vesuvius in one of the most attractive locations in the Mediterranean. With compact beaches of volcanic sands and a profusion of ancient history so there is a selection of activities to pass the time. For those who enjoy shopping a visit to Sorrento's Corso Italia is highly recommended. There are numerous boutiques and designer shops that lace this dazzling walkway. If you're after that must-have dress there's plenty to choose from. For eating out the Neapolitan Riviera pulls out all the stops. Relax in a little piazza, order an espresso and settle down for some serious people watching. Or perhaps search out a smart restaurant and enjoy a wonderful meal. Whatever your choice there will be a bar or restaurant to suit you. Famed for its thermal spas, Ischia it's just the place if you fancy being pampered from head to toe.

Sorrento is situated in Campania, southern Italy and is a popular tourist destination. Clinging on to the edge of a cliff top that falls sheer into the Mediterranean, this enchanting town enjoys a wonderful location looking out over the bay of Naples towards Mount Vesuvius. Both Naples and Pompeii are within reach as Sorrento lies at the south-eastern terminus of the Circumvesuviana train line. Boats and fast hydrofoils offer services to Naples, Amalfi, Positano, Capri and Ischia. Hotel La Solara is a perfect position from which to explore both Sorrento, with it's profusion of history and other towns on of the Neapolitan riviera. When staying at Hotel La Solara a visit to Piazza Tasso, the main square is a must. Piazza Tasso is named after the Italian poet, Torquato Tasso. The square is encircled with cafes and restaurants and is a wonderful spot to enjoy a Margherita pizza, which originated in Naples or a spaghetti with the world famous Napolitana sauce. In the vicinity of Piazza Tasso is an area known as the Drains, a network of charismatic medieval narrow streets brimming with shops selling local produce like Limoncello and hand modelled wooden goods. If you are looking for sunshine, stunning views and great restaurants offering good food then Sorrento has to tick all the boxes
